My Toolbox

There are many tools that can be used for modding a PC, in fact most tools that you would use for most DIY projects can be used for this purpose. Bellow i will list a few:

The Rotary Tool

This tool is used to do any complicated cutting work and engraving as it is suited to getting into hard to reach areas and for its fine control. This is the most important tool in my repertoire, as this tool is used for most things. This tool can be used to cut windows in the side panels and also for grinding and sanding the cut as well it is so versatile.

The Glue Gun

This tool is used to stick anything to the inside of a PC case. This tool is usually used for sticking acrylic into place for a window mod. The reason that this tool is used is because the glue sets very quickly and is very hard. It is also airtight and waterproof if done correctly.

Files

These tools come in a number of shapes and sizes and varying teeth spacings. These are used to remove excess material and smooth off the edges of a cut. Once the surface is filed the sanding can start that makes the surface more smooth.

Drill

The drill is used for the bigger drilling jobs, bigger drill bits are needed to drill bigger holes. We can drill out the rivets that hold the parts together so that we can customise the case more and paint the internal parts of the case. The drill can also be used to drill holes to mount fans to the case using hole saw attachments.

Mouse Sander

This is used to do any heavy sanding in any tight areas. This tool is great for removing the original paint job or for sanding any custom made parts from polystyrene and body filler. the same results can be got from using different grades of sand paper but it takes more time and hard graft.

Miscellaneous Tools

There are many other tools that can be used for modding, anything that would be good at creating the thing that is imagined so I wouldn't put any hard and fast rules on what tools to use or not use but here is a small list of other tools:
  • Rubber mallet
  • Tin snips
  • Square nose pliers
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Chisel
  • Flat head screw driver
  • Scribe or Etch
  • Solder gun
  • Heat gun
  • Phillips screw drivers
  • Wire stripper & Cutter
  • Butane torch
  • Tape measure
  • Bench vice
